DAT 121

A research paper based on statistical modeling.

In a managerial statistics course, we were tasked with researching a topic in a group setting that could be analyzed with data and culminated into a final term paper at the end of the semester. My group chose to explore the factors that influence rates of home ownership in the state of Missouri.

Objectives- The primary purpose was to identify and analyze the key factors affecting homeownership rates using a US Census dataset of over 100 counties.

Our Process-

Statistical Analysis: We utilized various statistical techniques to examine the relationships between homeownership rates and potential influencing factors such as income levels and demographic variables (age, race, etc). We also specifically looked at rates of black home ownership in Missouri to see if there was any correlation.

Model Development: Developed predictive models to estimate the impact of various factors on home ownership while evaluating model efficacy through rigorous statistical testing.

Our term paper includes:

  • Brief Introduction and Hypothesis

  • Key Results: A thorough exploration of the data findings, accompanied by scatter plots and other graphical representations to illustrate key points.

  • Data Overview

  • Model Insights: Detailed the performance and implications of the developed statistical models, discussing how different variables affect homeownership rates.

  • An explanation of the Economic Significance of our findings

  • Summary & Appendix
